Connor Shields is a sculptor based in Leeds.
Since graduating from Leeds Arts University in 2018, Shields has produced work which enquires into the nature of male-ness through dichotomous materials such as steel, cement, knitted wool and fabrics. Originally from Middlesbrough and now working in Leeds, Shields uses materials that are intrinsically woven to the fabric of the North as a response to experiencing these post-industrial landscapes. By exploring the binaries in materiality, Shields examines the concepts of strength and vulnerability contained in contemporary gender discourse.
Shields completed a BA (Hons) Fine Art at Leeds arts University in 2018. Since then their work has gained notoriety in a succession of exhibitions in Leeds and across the North.
