James Thompson is an artist working in sculpture, performance and moving image, and is based in Leeds.
Thompson produces site-specific work in physical and digital media that is designed to interrupt conventional perceptions of space. By recontextualising spatial situations, the viewer is transported into an alternative reality, one that challenges preconceived notions of how to interact within defined spaces. Thompson has worked extensively in civic buildings to interact with the local histories contained in those community structures.
Thompson completed his Foundation and BA qualifications in both Art and Design and Three Dimensional Design at Leeds College of Art. He then went on to recieve his MA from The Royal College of Art in 2010. Since then Thompson has exhibited extensively, exploring spaces around the world.
