Jill Tate is a painter and architectural photographer based in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Since graduating from Northumbria University in 2005, with a 1st class BA (Hons) in Contemporary Photographic Practice, Tate has established herself as a professional architectural photographer. In 2017, she turned her attention to painting, to consider these architectural spaces more intimately. Tate’s paintings begin as scale models, which she then photographs and translates to oil. She uses a muted palette of earth tones to study the subtlety and warmth of interior, domestic spaces. Light plays an important role in Tate’s paintings, offering a dream-like dimension which transports and intrigues the viewer.
